The Challenge

Previously, the ACARA website offered guidelines for the Australian Curriculum for students in Foundation to Year 10. It was a valuable resource for parents, students, and especially teachers, who use it to plan lessons and grade assignments.

However, the website needed to be more responsive and user-friendly. For the first time, ACARA underwent a digital transformation, integrating the entire Australian Curriculum onto a new content management system (CMS) to better serve the evolving education landscape.

Solution

ACARA and Merkle transformed educational content delivery, making information easily accessible and refreshing ACARA’s digital brand. They ensure a consistent user experience, supporting students and teachers from understanding the curriculum to bringing digital content to life in the classroom.



This challenge went beyond merely publishing the new curriculum online. The goal was to create a platform that users could navigate across eight learning areas with multiple functionalities. The platform offers:

  • Students: Opportunities to learn comprehensively, focusing on local, regional, and global issues through cross-curriculum priorities, and developing general capabilities like creative thinking and understanding
  • Teachers: Tools to systematically plan and teach age-appropriate content drawn from various subjects

Results

Merkle introduced a design system and information architecture to simplify navigation and create a repeatable framework for ACARA’s digital portfolio.



They built a customized Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) desktop website to showcase the Australian Curriculum interactively. With Adobe’s support, they transformed curriculum data for easy front-end integration. Teachers across Australia participated in design and user experience testing. Adobe Analytics and Target were used to optimize and personalize the site.

The result is a faster, more flexible experience that changes how users interact with the curriculum. It gives teachers control over their view, making lesson planning easier and freeing up time to focus on teaching.

The ACARA campaign modernized its digital presence, enhancing brand positioning and simplifying curriculum delivery. By integrating advanced technologies and involving teachers, it set a new standard for digital education. The revamped platform provides easy access to resources, supports teachers, and helps students engage more effectively, leading to better educational outcomes.
